To get started, TaxCut offers two basic options; a guided interview will ask you all the questions needed to complete your return. The program then completes tax calculations behind-the-scenes. For those with a little more experience, you can also select the Fast Form option, which shows you a list of recommended forms to complete. (Of course you can open any IRS form at any time to view or change values manually.)

Besides the guided approach, TaxCut offers online assistance with both IRS instructions and tax tips from Kiplinger's, including tax "assistants" who guide you though crucial tax topics like capital gains, mutual funds, and tips for parents. (In testing, we found this last feature to be particularly useful.) Another worthy help option provides explanations in clear English on the purpose (and rules) behind a variety of common IRS forms and schedules.
